ANGKOR HERITAGE TOUR – EXPLORE THE MAGNIFICIENT TEMPLES OF SIAM REAP
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, set out for an unforgettable day exploring the awe-inspiring temples of the Angkor Archaeological Park, one of the world's greatest archaeological and religious sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your journey begins with a visit to the West Gate of Angkor Thom, one of the lesser-visited entrances to the ancient city, offering a peaceful and unique perspective away from the crowds.
Continue to Angkor Thom, the magnificent fortified capital of the Khmer Empire built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. Enter through the impressive South Gate, adorned with giant stone faces and flanked by rows of gods and demons depicting the famous Churning of the Ocean of Milk.
The highlight of Angkor Thom is the Bayon Temple, celebrated for its 54 majestic towers decorated with over 200 serene, smiling faces of Avalokitesvara (or King Jayavarman VII), creating one of Cambodia's most iconic and mysterious sights.
Next, visit the Baphuon Temple, an impressive three-tiered pyramid representing the mythical Mount Meru, considered the sacred centre of the universe in Hindu cosmology. Following this, explore the Phimeanakas Temple, located within the Royal Palace complex, which once served as the royal temple of the Khmer kings.
Continue to the Terrace of the Elephants, an impressive 350-metre-long platform where the king and his court once watched royal ceremonies, military parades, and public celebrations. Nearby, visit the tranquil Preah Palilay Temple, a hidden gem nestled amidst the forest, where you may also witness local Buddhist monks blessing visitors with holy water for peace, prosperity, and good fortune.
Your exploration then takes you to the enchanting Ta Prohm Temple, famously known as the "Tomb Raider Temple." Left largely untouched since its rediscovery, Ta Prohm is dramatically intertwined with gigantic tree roots and dense jungle vegetation, creating a magical atmosphere that beautifully illustrates nature reclaiming an ancient civilization.
The tour concludes with a visit to the magnificent Angkor Wat, Cambodia's most celebrated landmark and the largest religious monument in the world. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, Angkor Wat is an architectural masterpiece renowned for its grandeur, intricate carvings, and remarkable symmetry. Marvel at the world's longest continuous bas-relief galleries, depicting fascinating stories from Hindu mythology, including the epic Ramayana and Mahabharata, along with scenes from Khmer history. The temple's iconic five towers, symbolizing the peaks of Mount Meru, stand as a timeless testament to the brilliance of Khmer architecture and engineering.
After an enriching day immersed in Cambodia's glorious past, return to your hotel with unforgettable memories of one of the world's greatest ancient civilizations.
